Casa Lazareto is located on the east of Funchal, only a few hundred meters from the Atlantic coast on the island of Madeira. It is situated on a large isolated plot, with breathtaking elevated oceanic views of the city bay.

The five bedroom house, with a total area of 420m2, has an ‘L’ shaped plan that naturally orients itself to the views toward the south and west, whilst securing privacy from neighbouring buildings from the northeast.

The living area opens entirely to the exterior deck and swimming pool to the south and also to a small exterior atrium to the north, allowing for a constant flow of fresh air and sustainable living qualities.

Materials have been carefully selected to sustain high levels of solar radiation and salt from the ocean, whilst keeping an elegant, contemporary feel.

The house steps naturally with the existing terrain, reducing construction costs whilst creating lush gardens at various levels, culminating with a rooftop terrace that boasts spectacular views of the entire city.
